2010 Plan: Real Solutions for America

Spending Restraint and Limited Government

In the Gardner household, we know we have to watch how much money we spend to make sure that we can cover our bills.  It is time Congress starts living within its means as well.  Congress must pass a balanced budget amendment.  Representative Betsy Markey and the Pelosi Congress spent more money in a mere matter of months than President Bill Clinton spent in his full 8 years as President.  We must put an end to runaway spending in Washington DC.

1.     Introduce a balanced budget amendment
2.    Cap areas of federal spending and impose a federal hiring freeze in most areas of government
3.    End funding for programs deemed ineffective by the Government Accountability Office (GAO). Additional spending cuts must be identified and implemented
4.    The U.S. should consolidate International Development programs.  Eliminate and/or consolidate programs under one entity within the State and Defense Departments
5.    Eliminate agencies and departments that are no longer meeting their purpose or are deemed ineffective and duplicative
6.    I support efforts by Rep. John Shadegg to cite the Constitutional authority of legislation, "The Enumerated Powers Act"
