Dear Congresswoman Markey,
Welcome back to Colorado.
With only 69 days before absentee ballots are mailed to voters, it is time for us to have a serious discussion about the critical issues that are facing the 4th Congressional District and the nation at large.
Here in Colorado, we have a constantly rising number of unemployed and underemployed citizens. Our farmers and ranchers are facing incredible uncertainty due to our lack of water storage and pending cap-and-trade legislation which would devastate our agricultural economy. America has a debt that has skyrocketed and a budget deficit that has ballooned to over $1.6 trillion this year alone. Recently, at an event with your supporters, you declared that the stimulus had succeeded and that the recession is over. If you get the chance to interact with constituents in your district during recess, you will find that they do not agree with your assessment of the current state of our economy.
As Coloradans consider the future of their state and country before they cast their vote in the November election, they have before them a distinct choice between two candidates with different opinions and solutions to the major challenges facing our country. I believe, and I am certain you agree, that it is our responsibility to provide a forum for Coloradans to hear our solutions to the problems facing our country.
Before you resume session in September, I invite you to engage in a series of debates on issues pertinent to constituents throughout the district. I propose we participate in open exchanges in:
- Sterling to discuss energy and agriculture
- Weld County to discuss the need for more water storage in Northern Colorado and our solutions to the skyrocketing unemployment in the county, especially the City of Greeley’s 11.3% unemployment rate
- Fort Collins to discuss the economy
- Longmont to discuss general issues and take questions from the audience
I look forward to your response to this invitation and the opportunity to engage in an open dialogue with you and the people of the 4th Congressional District. My campaign manager will follow up with your team to discuss mutually acceptable locations, moderators and formats for each debate.
Sincerely,
Cory Gardner
